Promoting Our Sport

Everyone involved in our wonderful sport knows what it's like to have people say to them, "wow, I had no idea rope skipping was like that!"
We can all do our part in promoting and sharing our sport with the public. Whether it's by performing, hosting workshops, fitness classes or simply posting photos and videos online, together we can make rope skipping as popular as it is special. Sibu Sodo of South Africa is working hard to spread rope skipping throughout Cape Town and its surrounding areas. Let's follow Sibu's lead and take rope skipping to new heights in Canada! Welcome Home!

The 2012 FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships and World Youth Tournament were held July 31st to August 7th at the University of South Florida. The competition hosted over one thousand athletes, judges and coaches from 19 countries and is the highest level of competitive rope skipping in the world. 12 Nova Scotians, all from the Jump Energy Rope Skipping Club of Porters Lake, represented Team Canada very well. Below is a summary of their results.

FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships:
Female Division: Monica Harlow, Jordan Richard, Breagha Lapierre and Kelsey Lucas came in 11th place in Double Dutch Pairs Freestyle

FISAC-IRSF World Youth Tournament:
Female Division: Kirsten Lind, Mikayla Keizer, Kristyn Ball and Reagan Safire came in 8th place in Single Rope Speed and Power Relay
Open Division: Cameron Short, Hayley Drapeau, Emily Rounds and Sam Ashley came in 7th place in Double Dutch Single Freestyle and Double Dutch Pairs Freestyle
Female Masters 15-17: Jordan Richard came in 12th place in Single Rope Freestyle
Female Masters 18+: Monica Harlow came in 7th place in 30 Second Speed

The athletes are now preparing for the 2014 FISAC-IRSF World Rope Skipping Championships that will be held in Hong Kong, China.

Watch and Learn in Halifax!

As a part of the Halifax Public Library's Kickoff to Summer Reading Program, come watch a demonstration by some of Nova Scotia's top jumpers! After the demonstration, you'll get a chance to learn some skills including Long Rope, Double Dutch, Single Rope and Partner Skipping!

What a Great Weekend!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the 2012 Rope Skipping Canada National Championships! We had a great event with some big speed scores, fantastic freestyle routines, and a whole lot of fun! Thank you to all of the tournament organizers, volunteers and sponsors! Thank you to the International Demo Team (L to R: Wouter Tack, Monica Harlow, Sebastien Deeg, Vivien Vajda, Sam Ashley, Sarah Dobrowolski and Willem Tack) for their help promoting rope skipping throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and performing at the Opening Ceremonies. Most of all, thank you to all of the athletes for making Nationals one of the best championships we have ever had!

Jump Anywhere!

Rope skipping isn't just for gymnasiums! One of the beautiful things about rope skipping is that you don't need anything more than yourself and a rope. No fancy facility or equipment necessary, shoes are even optional! Check out this great video from some jumpers on their trip to Hong Kong!

2012 RSC National Championships - Hosted by RSANS

RSANS and the Sackville Speeders are happy to announce that we are co-hosting the 2012 Rope Skipping Canada National Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, on May 17-20, 2012.

RSANS is seeking volunteers to help plan, promote, and coordinate the competition. If you or anyone you know are able to help out in any way, please contact the tournament chair, Angela MacDonald, at angela@rsans.com.
